Submission Guidelines

Nonprofit Career Month promotes the number and diversity of career opportunities in the nation's nonprofit sector. The stories, best practices, and speaker profiles you submit to this website help make that mission possible.

This page gives an overview of our submission guidelines. Please read through them before adding your content to the site. Thanks!

Best Practices

  1. The goal is to collect best practices around promoting or finding nonprofit jobs. Please peruse the site before submitting a best practice to get a sense for the project as a whole.
  2. The ideal best practice offers a unique way of doing something related to the nonprofit career search.
  3. Please do not submit a best practice that advertises a service or product; is not specific to nonprofit careers; or is focused on personal opinions or generic advice instead of specific tools, tips or practices.
  4. Because we're still piloting this project and working out the kinks, please let us know how we can improve the process or the final project.
  5. We reserve the right to edit best practices for length, content, spelling, and grammar.
  6. By submitting a best practice, you're consenting to the possible use of it for all promotional, media, and personal use, including but not limited to marketing, advertising, and public relations activities without payment or other notification. By submitting you also understand that these materials will become property of Nonprofit Career Month.

Speaker Profiles

  1. The goal is to create a library of speakers who can share what they have experienced while working in the nonprofit sector. Please peruse the site before submitting a speaker profile to get a sense for the project as a whole.
  2. An ideal speaker will be able to offer a unique perspective about what it’s like to work in the nonprofit sector as well as prior experience speaking in public. We recognize the great value in volunteer work, but for this site we're looking for speakers with paid nonprofit experience.
  3. Please do not submit a speaker profile with the expectation that it will result in significant compensation or revenue stream. This is intended to be a community site motivated by a shared interest in strengthening the nonprofit workforce pipeline.
  4. Only submit a profile for yourself. There is a link so you can email the form to a friend if you know of others who would be a great fit for this project.
  5. Because we're still piloting this project and working out the kinks, please let us know how we can improve the process or the final product.
  6. We reserve the right to edit speaker profiles for length, content, spelling, and grammar.
  7. By submitting a profile, you're consenting to the possible use of your profile for all promotional, media, and personal use, including but not limited to marketing, advertising, and public relations activities without payment or other notification. By submitting you also understand that this profile will become property of Nonprofit Career Month.

Stories (Coming soon!)

  1. The goal is to collect stories that illustrate what it's like to work in the nonprofit sector. Peruse the site before submitting a story to get a sense for the project as a whole.
  2. Submit your stories about full-time or part-time PAID work only. We recognize the great value in volunteer work, but for this site we're just looking for stories about paid positions.
  3. The perfect story offers your unique perspective about what it's like to work in the nonprofit sector. No need to generalize about the sector or the universal nonprofit experience.
  4. Please do not submit a story explaining why a particular organization is bad, why the Executive Director is horrible, or why you will never work in the sector again. However, if you had an experience that wasn't entirely positive, feel free to share the "learning moments" from that time along with what worked. We don't want to sugarcoat the nonprofit experience but this is not the venue to air grievances, vent about a bad experience, or comment on the effectiveness of one particular organization.
  5. Because we're still piloting this project and working out the kinks, it may take a little while for your story to appear on the site. Please be patient.
  6. We reserve the right to edit stories for length, content, spelling, and grammar.
  7. By submitting a story, you're consenting to the possible use of your story for all promotional, media, and personal use, including but not limited to marketing, advertising, and public relations activities without payment or other notification. By submitting you also understand that these materials will become property of Nonprofit Career Month.
