Written by Steve Joiner. Click here to peruse the Career Corner archives.

We're thrilled and very proud of our "behind the scenes" staff that continually strives to make our office a place where we enjoy coming every day of the week (and the occasional weekend).

In the final blog of the series “Odd Jobs” I will be exploring the job of a nonprofit Convention Planner.

In the nonprofit sector there are a lot of event planners, at one time I actually thought about this position, because of the prevalence of need in the sector. All nonprofit organizations have fundraising events that need planning. After a recent flight to Baltimore, where I sat next to a nonprofit Convention Planner I realized that beyond event planning this nonprofit job takes a lot of marketing, fundraising, and organization skills.

I am looking forward to working with them and tapping into each of their individual areas of expertise. They are also looking forward to working with me and learning more about the nonprofit sector.

National Pro Bono Week Launches in the Legal Community

During the week of October 25 to 31, the American Bar Association and the legal community in the United States are celebrating national Pro Bono Week, dedicated to showcasing the impact pro bono efforts can make in the nation, especially during the economic downturn.

While not the same as a career in public interest law, pro bono — Or volunteer/unpaid — legal work is a way that all lawyers can help meet the needs of people and organizations in the community that can't afford to pay for private legal representation.
